“If you can only be tall because somebody is on their knees, then you have a serious problem. And my feeling is: White people have a very, very serious problem, and they should start thinking about what they can do about it. Take me out of it.” - Toni Morrison
As a casual non-white observer, it’s so bizarre to see folks work so hard to try to prove their superiority over someone like me when they could spend that time actually bettering their own lives and…I don’t know, be happy instead of miserable fucks.

I’ve been thinking and writing a lot about abolition, liberation, and curricular justice in the field of world language education. I’m honored and excited to share and reflect on this topic during my plenary at the upcoming AAAL conference. I hope you’ll join me!

Friendly reminder that if you’re using this book next semester in a class or professional development series, I’d be happy to do a virtual visit. Check out a review from Teachers College Record here:

Just did an interview that was super chill, so I naturally slipped back into my rural Black southern accent. When I tell you this AI transcription software is confused!

The ACTFL convention is off to a great start. Sheryl Lee Ralph gave an inspiring keynote address, and it was such an honor to meet and chat with her in person. Looking forward to the rest of the weekend! #ACTFL24

I look forward to seeing everyone at #ACTFL. I’m sure I’ll run into many of you at one of the many events already on my calendar. I’m excited that I’ll get to break away to give a brief paper presentation with my colleague Belén Hernando Lloréns. Swing by if you can. #langchat

Enjoyed my first (of what I hope will be many) WAFLT conference, where I met and reconnected with many wonderful and dedicated language professionals in Wisconsin. After giving a 6-hour pre-conference workshop plus a talk at Lawrence University, I’m encouraged but also exhausted 😮‍💨
