AFI watch #47/100 - West Side Story (1961) - forgot to log this one. Is it culturally significant? Sure. Is it the best Romeo & Juliet adaptation? No, IMO. Film is best watched if the viewer jumps in completely and stops trying to intellectually digest the weird bits (like Natalie Wood in brownface)
#46/100 - Psycho (1960), outstanding film. I've come to realize my favorite Hitchcock films are the tightest *in terms of location* with one memorable setting like the Bates Motel, the mansion in Rebecca, or the apartment complexes in Dial M for Murder and Rear Window
#45/100 - The Apartment, a very good Billy Wilder film on the AFI Top 100 starring Fred MacMurray and centered around insurance men, and I'm not talking about Double Idemnity. Obviously very different movies but still weird it happened twice

Haven't been posting much here lately, just wanted to say...

The new Fallout s2 trailer looks cool, but not inspiring. Character designs are intriguing and improved, but just a preview of the writing does not raise my expectations for the franchise. Repeat tropes, add no new ideas to the world.

Q: What prompted you to announce you're resuming nuclear testing right before the meeting with Xi?

TRUMP: They seem to all be nuclear testing. We have more nuclear weapons than anybody. We don't do testing. We halted it many years ago, but w/ others doing testing I think it's appropriate we do also

“Walmart was the top employer of SNAP recipients in five states and one of the top four employers in the remaining four states. McDonald’s was among the top five employers of Medicaid enrollees in five of six states and SNAP recipients in eight of nine states.”

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

It's both exciting and confusing to see how large the Fallout IP has grown. A videogame franchise (now TV show) about rebuilding society in the ashes of global nuclear annihilation has promotional connection to a semi-professional hockey team? The World of Fallout Exhibit sounds awesome though.

it's dizzying to me that stories like this -- a corrupt grift built on democracy-wrecking lies that culminated in a coup attempt -- barely breakthrough anymore. they're just daily background noise now.
COLLINS: The NYT is reporting your legal team is seeking $230 million from your own DOJ now in response to the investigations into you. Is that something you want?

TRUMP: It could be, yeah. I don't even talk to them about it. All I know is they would owe me a lot of money. They rigged the election.
