Reading the C.A.6 Pronoun decision: while the court acknowledges that schools have a greater ability to limit speech, it describes the limit of these restrictions using out-of-school cases.

Meaning the court has constructed a school forum that doesn’t give deference educators to limit speech.

Breaking: SCOTUS has just stayed the trans passport case, meaning transgender Americans can no longer get a passport that matches their gender identity

Trump admin has sued California for allowing trans girl to compete despite a rule that gives cis girls the trans athletes placement. DOJ is now using that rule against California in the lawsuit as the state “acknowledging”the wrong.

A stark reminder that compliance will not buy grace w/ this admin

The Supreme Court is setting up a de facto presidential dictatorship, in which the president is immune to the law, can openly defy courts with no consequences, and courts are not even empowered to order him to stop disobeying the Constitution.
This is the line from the horrific SCOTUS decision today that will stick with me. “Sure, the president should follow the law - but the courts can’t force him to do it.” Rendering the Constitution a dead letter if the president decides he’d rather not deal with it.

If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.

Melissa Hortman’s speakership was instrumental in prioritizing the Trans Refuge law to protect the rights of trans people moving to the state.

Coming from Texas, this was instrumental in my decision to move to Minnesota, and to make a home here.

Thank you Speaker Hortman. Rest in Peace.

The fact the next weeks SCOTUS opinions will be released on Wednesday, not Thursday, because they’re celebrating Juneteenth is such a funny little quirk in our current political moment.

Every single state needs to have a PACER-like system that is easily accessible, (mostly) free, and gives updates and alerts.

There is no reason why the courts should be so unaccessible in many states as they’re currently construed.

Why does this always happen with LGBTQ hate crimes? Like we see this play out time and time again but cops are completely blind to the idea of even INVESTIGATING that there MIGHT have been a hate crime
San Antonio police have walked back on a previous statement that there was no evidence of a hate crime in the killing of actor Jonathan Joss, with the police chief now calling the statement “premature.”
Police take back statement dismissing hate crime in gay actor’s killing
Jonathan Joss, who acted in “King of the Hill” and “Parks and Recreation,” was shot in San Antonio by a man who yelled “homophobic slurs” at him, his husband said.

Shelby County played a major role in getting us to where we are today and the actual holding of the case, as Leah describes so well, was that it’s not fair to Republicans to let everyone vote because then they are more likely to lose and SCOTUS can’t allow that.

Y’all, the restriction of gender affirming care as an essential health benefit IS NOT an HRT ban. Only 5 states currently cover gender-affirming care as an EHB right now, but obviously care is still accessible in all 50.

THIS is why many local police departments choose not to share some information with ICE. This woman's decision to report her assault to the cops led to her being arrested by ICE and likely deported.

The message this sends to people is they shouldn't report crimes. That's bad for our communities.
