Something I always believed about journalism (which I did for a while) was that the people and organizations you're covering shouldn't be happy to see you coming. Their well-paid PR people should be scrambling when you're working on a story. The relationship is fundamentally adversarial.
i wish i had the power or the money to like hire thousands of out of work journalists and put them (us?) to work doing what we do best ie chipping and scraping at the lies people in power tell. horse race commenters not welcome

Something I always believed about journalism (which I did for a while) was that the people and organizations you're covering shouldn't be happy to see you coming. Their well-paid PR people should be scrambling when you're working on a story. The relationship is fundamentally adversarial.
