It used to be that a 500-word essay on what I did over summer vacation was a task that would vex me for weeks. Now I just wrote 600 words on what my colleagues did last week in 40 minutes.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz comforted this woman at the candlelight vigil for Melissa and Mark Hortman last night at the State Capitol. He gave no remarks, had no visible security, and mourned with the Hortman family and all Minnesotans. #leadership

Here's some good political reporting by Matthew Blake.
Yesterday's budget compromise "is especially impressive, the governor said, 'at a time of chaos and dysfunction at the federal level.

'I think the country would be appreciative of this, because it can still work. Democracy is hard, but it can still work.'

And then chaos and dysfunction happened."

This is true. When I was flat broke and living in an infested hovel in Costa Rica, we would eat "comida de puta," or "whore food," which was just a can of oily tuna with vegetables mixed with rice. Even today the thought of returning to those lean, fish-smelling times makes me ill.
