🤨 Investing £22billion of public money in a technology with a track record of failure is NOT going to help the UK achieve its climate goals, or create good green jobs. Here’s why (thread):

Thanks for highlighting this. It’s worth also flagging that beyond the immediate £22bn allocated, the Gov expects the total cost of #CCS to 2050 to run to many hundreds of billions. Partly public, partly private - but all paid by us.

The UK just committed £22bn to carbon capture and storage – a tech with an 80% failure rate that lets oil & gas greenwash their emissions.

At this CCS conference, most speakers repped fossil fuel companies.

Share if you think it's absurd we're funding tech that protects fossil fuel profits 🙃

Both the UK and Scottish govts need to start listening to workers, and not just the lobbying of oil and gas bosses.
Workers want a fairer energy system. Governments need to start listening to them.

🚨 Hunger in the UK ISN’T about a lack of food.

People are facing hunger because they don’t have enough money to survive. The basic rate of Universal Credit is just £92 a week, disability benefits are being cut, energy bills are going up and rents are sky high.

It’s so wrong🧵

Working class communities have a long history of anti racist solidarity.

Billionaires poison everything.

Sucking up wealth, hollowing out communities, spreading poverty, division and hatred.

It’s time to tax the rich and repair our society.

Our first ask is a target: 🎯 1GW of community-owned energy by 2030.

That's 10x higher than now. Ambitious? Yes, but achievable.
@rescoop.eu say "In EU countries with such goals in place, clear policy signals and investor confidence has led to significant growth of the community energy movement.”
