"Thank you for citing an article we published" - I just received an email from Wiley thanking me for citing an article published in one of their journals. That's a first! Is this a new practice? They then explain why their journal is a great fit for my next work. Not quite sure how to feel about it

The govt can afford 3 billion for landlord tax cuts. The *entire Marsden fund* is 78 mil or so. & Soc sciences & humanities were only ever a fraction of that. The govt implicitly saying it can't afford it is not credible.

They just don't want critic & conscience work from academics.

Climate tech is full of grifters making ridiculous claims.

Do y’all remember when this company claimed that they remove 20 tonnes of CO₂ to make a 1-carat diamond? 😆

1 carat is by definition 0.2 g. 20 tonnes of CO₂ is 5.45 tonnes of C. That’s seven orders of magnitude difference.

Alchemy indeed!

Have other countries developed climate scenarios for their #highered sectors? NZ unis & tertiary providers collaborated on this to see how climate change could impact the sector (including #intled) The scenarios are (very kiwi!): 'Sweet As', 'She'll Be Right', 'Yeah, Nah' & 'Oh Bugger'.

This question is part of the UK agent training module - the correct answer (to pass the test) is 'true'...Also, a number of other "interesting" claims, such as how affordable UK is, information on the Openplus route etc. So, who should we blame if agents provide inaccurate information? #intled

Australia wants to halve its net migration figures within two years to overhaul a "broken system". A lot of focus on reducing the number of international students, including a higher IELTS score & a genuine student test. The government also remains open to a cap on student numbers. #intled

#Nzpol. The new government has decided to disestablish Te Pūkenga - I guess we'll hear soon how that will look like...return back to 16 independent ITPs or something else? Massive reform (again), if that's what's happening.

#nzpol so the new government is going to replace the 1st year Fees Free with a final year Fees Free. Why? If the aim is still to reduce #highered barriers, then the 1st year makes more sense. But what we really need is better student allowances (& loans) so that students can focus on their studies

I've resigned from my role as an Associate Editor of Journal of International Students. It used to be OA & no APC, but this changed "overnight" to £2500 to cover the costs of peer review administration & production. Is JIS going to start paying reviewers & editors? I don't think so. #academicsky
