December the 4th; St. Barbara’s Day - a little known saint. The “Barbarazweig” or Barbara Branch is a Germanic Christmas custom, probably pre dating any association with the saint. A small branch from a flowering tree is cut & placed in water today. If all is well the twig will blossom by Christmas.
