Less income #inequality between #EU states is driven by labour incomes in lower-income countries. A more centralised fiscal framework can play a crucial role in shaping EU-wide inequality.

PAA & the Association of Population Centers call for re-opening access to crucial #data, to enable research on health and wellbeing. Blocking these data is nonsensical. We researchers must not surrender. This is a time to make good trouble. @stone-lis.bsky.social @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social

🤔 It might be a good idea to condense it into an actionable playbook for #progressive policymakers.

But first I need to finish it 🥲

📖I’m truly enjoying @josephestiglitz.bsky.social’s new book.

It’s very elegant in its dissection of the failure of “free” markets and its proposals for a new progressive vision of government’s role in the economy.

I was today years old when I learned that my local #coffee shop is selling me espresso at a loss.

Coffee prices are +300% since 2020 and a coffee is still €1.2.

Their bet is to lose money on coffee but win big when I land on the pastry display.

So far it's payed off 90% of the time.

The "Tax the Rich" campaign failed before ever encountering the challenging political arena of a conservative-dominated parliament and commission. It couldn't even gather the basic democratic support required to force these institutions to engage with the proposal.

Personally I agree we need more #housing, but am skeptical about endorsing a "build, baby build" approach.

Need to assure it's sustainable (urban density > sprawl) and equitable.

TLDR: Supply matters and we need more homes but so does their distribution and environmental impact.

#EconSky #YIMBY
The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."
