Also, this new @sketch.com update is shaping up to be an absolute monster. Why did we cram so much into this one update? 😅 It was worth it though, it's going to be absolutely amazing. 😄 Our biggest update since, I don't know, ever? Frames, Stacks, Command Bar and much much more. sketch.com/beta

Not your typical Mac-related message: I've got a new car! And it's a totally unique one: A small, lightweight, electric classic roadster. the Carice TC2: www.pieteromvlee.net/home/driving-a-carice-tc2
Driving a Carice TC2 — Pieter Omvlee
It was seven years ago when I met the founders of Carice , who were developing a concept for a new kind of car; a classic design, lightweight construction, and an electric drivetrain. It’s a ...

Apples new Mac Studio. “Built for Apple Intelligence.” - there is so much wrong with this approach. Apple lucked into getting an amazing tech stack ideally suited to LLMs: massive amounts of unified memory. Advertise to pro users about running (your own) local models. Not Apple intelligence 🙈

Why does Apple not try anything novel with the Mac like ever? This is cellular Macs all over again. Yes we got Apple silicon which is amazing but other than that it seems we just get what iOS gets? That’s nice, but that’s not why I use a Mac, to get second hand iOS features…

I would love an Apple Vision display for my Mac. When I’m travelling a big expansive screen in a the shape of virtual glasses would be ideal. And better than Vision today; it could be smaller, lighter cheaper. And now it’s rumored to be cancelled 😞

@siracusa.bsky.social we’ve found that performance of simple VStacks can quickly become terrible on the Mac as it’s all hanging together with autolayout and text measuring is very expensive. Maybe try using a Grid or more fixed height views for the individual cells may help

As for 2025; we’re hard at work on stacks and frames and boy, does 13 or so years of legacy assumptions add up when they need changing… “artboards can best now?” 😅

Well, this is something new we tried. It’s been a busy year at @sketch with a lot of new stuff, but how we make this fun and yet informative, and involve more of the team? What do you think? 😁

What did we do in 2024? We asked @rafa.design (and a few friends) to show what we shipped… and… well… enjoy!

We’re working a stack layout feature for @sketch.com, and while we still have lots to do, here’s a sneak peek from yours truly: youtu.be/wK_OXZxakPQ

Particularly pleased with how we’ve repurposed the existing alignment actions to override cross-axis alignment on items.

I wrote a few words about the end of Delicious Library: www.pieteromvlee.net/home/delicio... and how influential it was on me wanting to write apps myself. Thanks Delicious Library and the team behind it for the inspiration 🙏

I don’t know if I’ll have a lot to say on Bluesky. We’re working on some pretty epic new things at @sketch.com which I can’t talk about yet as they’re very much work in progress. Who knows what part of it will actually ship! Though once it’s out officially my mind will already be on the next update…
