Too true. He is a great loss to comparative law/globalisation scholarship.

Just been working with a survey which indicates how few UK universities teaching some form of comparative law include sessions on methodology. Tendency to teach "Comparative and international perspectives on ..." without thinking what that actually entails. Hopefully more positive in Finland.

Whole-heartedly agree. So many PhDs/articles start with the simple sentence, "I will be using functionalism ..." without considering methodology more deeply.

Just discovered one of my favourite podcasts is back - it appeared magically on my tablet. Welcome back Waldy & Bendy!
The world's most indispensable arts podcast is back, with a new episode out now on all your usual platforms. Another episode out tomorrow, then weekly.

So hoping this happens. Sounds as if there are a lot of discussions, however, before we get there.

Delighted to speak at the Pathways to Justice workshop at University of Technology Sydney discussing the non-implementation of IICSA reforms to state-based redress in England and Wales and UK case-law following BXB. An excellent forum for discussion and to engage in comparative insights.

Be careful what you wish for when they arrive in your reviewer's box!

Elon Musk’s pot stirring over child sex abuse gangs has renewed focus on the issue, but why was so little done after the IICSA report in 2022? Has anything about the past week in politics felt a bit familiar to you? Some elements, like the political…

Should there be a non-delegable duty to prevent institutional child sexual abuse? My latest blog discusses a case going to the High Court of Australia in August on this point in the light of the HCA's 2024 ruling in Bird: legalresearch.blogs.bris.ac.uk/2025/07/comp...

Students studying abroad as part of their degree do struggle with obtaining visas often arriving late as a result. If we want to increase student opportunities, this would be a great step forward.

It does feel like that at the moment. Sunny day ahead and then you switch on the news headlines ...

But we need also to think about what we mean by 'bridge buidling' and remain neutral commentators while respecting both sides of the bridge Often not the easiest of tasks.

Yes I do feel I should be digging out my school History notes on C19 economic history.
