After years of tireless work by Animals Asia, bear bile farming has now been banned in Vietnam. But around 150 bears remain trapped in tiny metal cages.

Animals Asia is working with the Vietnamese government to rescue them.

Bananas came by this evening and enjoyed our garden. I had a banana for him but I guess he was still hungry.

As you can see here, he has a huge number of scars on his body. He showed up a few days ago with terrible cuts that he had gotten from a fight with another tapir.

One of my favorite things about the tropical dry forests of Guanacaste are the winter visiting Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. They're later than a lot of other N American migrants, but they're starting to show up in good numbers now. When it gets too wet in Bijagua, I just head down to the sun. #birds
