An aged and impecunious barrister. Bisexual, not an intellectual. He/him.
Wait is calling something “a total gong show” not an international phenomenon?

Am occasionally asked about my hopes for little Hugh’s future, and it’s hard to really know what to say about a baby who’s two months old, but that he be able to stand in authentic wonder before God’s creation strikes me as an extremely apt summary.

The official, just-in-time PJL review of the first Wicked movie: everyone involved in this project hates Frank Baum and other than Defying Gravity the music is mid. Two stars.

The Carthusians.
What's your absolutely unworkable plan to drop out of your current life (or at least work life) and do something completely different?

The black and white moth on the cover of @tkingfisher.com’s What Feasts at Night has bought me an extra 20 mins of reading since the baby woke up because he’s fascinated by it. Marketing hack?

The Red Hot albums were legitimately incredible? Bizarre to think about charity compilation CDs in that way, but the version of This is Madness from the Last Poets with Pharaoh Sanders on Red Hot + Cool is maybe the best moment on record from everyone involved.
Rediscovered RED HOT + BLUE, a great tribute album to Cole Porter.

David Byrne, for one, absolutely understood the assignment.

I wonder when the memories of the little wrinkles my son gets on his forehead when he does a big stretch while sleeping in my lap will fade away for good… I know I won’t even miss them, but I can’t imagine that now. Just too precious.

The maxim you want to describe the responses to this skeet is “a hit dog will holler.”
The bumper says 'rugged working man'.

But the cargo bed says ‘cosplay builder with soft hands’.

Time to ban these fragile-man-mobiles from our cities.

Tossed a lighter that wasn’t working into a campfire.

The ensuing fireball knocked me off my feet and into the log we used for seating.
What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done? I don’t mean “cheating on your partner” stupid, I mean stupid stupid. Like, once, I had this bubble bath which smelled absolutely delicious, so I took a big glug of it. That kind of stupid. (It did not taste delicious.)

Ok, 3 weeks in and this is my first real “but I’m a big toasty cinnamon bun 😔” night feeding.

I do enjoy finding a book that’s been extravagantly highlighted for its first… nine pages and then left utterly unmarked (one suspects unread) the rest of the way.

On the one hand, when my wife handed over her phone with spelling bee opened I saw the pangram immediately.

On the other, I only know it from one context and I hate that you American sickos (affectionate) have brain poisoned me like this. ☹️

I know a lot of my friends here have been in our corner on this, so wanted to let you know that our new addition, Hugh, has arrived. 9lbs 7oz with a full little head of blond hair. Everyone safe and happy here. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for all your care for him and don’t stop now.

Frost advisory tonight that I don’t believe in, but I’m still going to tuck my basil in.

Ok, if we get our timings right we could have a baby the same day Canada wins its first rugby World Cup…

The one that really still burns me is when we were driving home from ON and realized we weren't young enough to either do it in one stretch or sleep in the car anymore, so we ended up looking for a place in Edmunston, NB at about 11pm. $310 for a spot in the Day's Inn.
My friend confirms $300 a night in Belleville!!

What I can tell is that something has happened to somebody whose name I have muted. This is a weird vibe.

Anticipating that small, grasping hands may not play well with my HE-6s I took the plunge for my first set of wireless headphones and they’re simply awful? No wonder public spaces have gone to pot with live video and whatnot.

Mmm, I think I’ll take “mercantilism appears to be easy to sell to the rubes at first blush, but actually the empirics of free trade are so strong that it will be easy to reinstate” plz.
