If I had to sum up what's gone wrong in the world during my adult life (last 40+ years), it would be "Optimization."

There is no best life, best body, best diet, etc. Everything is a trade-off.

There's usually some significant imbalance or inequality lurking behind every optimization.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who is coming to save you?

(Good for me, I guess. But I worry they could end up killing each other in the process, allowing the kidnappers to survive and me not being rescued.)
