Inside the mind of a 16-year-old
At the next election, 16-year-olds will be able to vote for the first time ever. If politicians don’t help them now, despair will push them into the arms of populists

Shuab is in sparkling form - a great podcast.
Shuab Gamote, author of a major @demos-uk.bsky.social study on young people in the UK with @peterhyman.bsky.social joins us this week to slay the sacred cow that politicians are talking to young people - they aren't, and it's well past time to do things differently. Listen now!

This is such an insightful post from @peterhyman.bsky.social. It’s amazing how uninterested so many in government seem to be in getting from A to B or even in what B is. A rare exception was Shabana Mahmood’s sentencing reforms open.substack.com/pub/peterhym...

‘As educators, we should never give in to moral panic’: @peterhyman.bsky.social explains why schools should allow debate to unfold in a way that gives space for teenagers' views to be heard, not censored
Ditch the ‘Andrew Tate assembly’ and start having proper discussions
A former adviser to Tony Blair and Keir Starmer says schools can’t just tell boys to avoid controversial content – instead, they need to give them the tools, time and space to discuss the world they inhabit

Fascinating insights in this new report from @demos-uk.bsky.social @peterhyman.bsky.social

At the heart of young people’s agenda for change is economic fairness & a clear demand for an economic system that tackles the insecurity and precariousness shaping their lives.

🗳️ 16-year-olds are about to get the vote - but how well do adults *really* know what they think?

A new Demos report sets out to answer this question by talking to more than 700 students aged 16-18 across Britain.

A fascinating report this, interesting that one of the reasons young people spend so much time online is the lack of alternatives.

The report says there's a need to fund spaces for young people to meet. There's a yearning to do more in person.

Ideally, for me, physical activity and sport spaces.

Notable in today's YouGov that the centre/left bloc - Lab/Green/LD/SNP are on 54%. With Reform/Tories on 43%. That's the biggest differential in a long time.

I think useful to track blocs given instability between parties at the moment.
