Hopeless romantic in 2019 believing that Lab and Everton could both come back from the dead.

I'll take 1/2.
"Could" isn't even as strong as "might" which also means "might not."

Trash filler journalism, rehashing a story that comes around every decade.

It has changed in the past. It will change in the future.

Now, frighten us with ice ages and global warming in the same bulletin.

There is a reason why you call a baby a fetus.

Once you dehumanise a child your conscience is salved.

A child in the womb, shot by a lunatic and killed, is treated very differently in law.

The difference?

The mother wants that one.

What's your view on the selective abortion of girls in China?

This is shite.

If you can't name the source it isn't worth a candle.

Streeting is a clever bloke, all too aware that, closer to Mandelson than many, this is not the time to bid for the leadership.

There's been an explosion in numbers of media outlets. The've a voracious appetite for news. If there isn't any they make it up, speculation & gossip; politics sure, but climate, health, education ...

Count the number of "mays," "could's" & the like in headlines. Not to mention "un-named sources."

Martin is an odd fish. WS paid over £400m in taxes last year, he lives here. He treats staff well, although ratios are sometimes light at busy times, beer is kept well and cheap. He could make much more by putting prices up, they would still be low.

He must know that BREXIT was a disaster & yet ...

A photo of a dead baby is heart wrenching. A photo of one deliberately killed has added horror.

I can understand why this is an unpardonable assault on the emotions of parents and I also understand why pro-abortion groups don't want such photos shared. They call themselves pro-life for a reason.

In the UK all papers presented in Parliament or information spoken, with very few exceptions is privileged and the presenters are protected.

Is the same true in the US?

Part of the problem is that the international situation is distorted by Trump's need to appear at the centre. That requires premiers/presidents to engage when, previously, Foreign, Finance, Defence Ministers would lead.

This speculation was flogged to death last week.

I know 45 mins is a lot to fill but still.
February 10, 2026 at 10:08 AM
Nigel's main places of work are the parliamentary estate and Clacton

He appears to be averse to spending much time in either.
February 10, 2026 at 10:07 AM
Did Dr Jo make these points when Mandelson was appointed?

PS. Doing the dirty work is what the diplomatic service exists for. (Among other things.)
February 10, 2026 at 10:04 AM
The best still can be. The problem is the explosion in the "news" space leaves much to fill and the consumers can only take so much "serious" stuff, hence the tittle tattle

Two desperate teams yesterday. Wait until they're leading with 10 minutes to go.
February 9, 2026 at 4:59 PM
Lab has always been able to rely on leaders knowing when the game was up & then doing the 'right thing." Corbyn was a possible exception.

Previously, there were always valid alternatives available, although they didn't always go for them. Foot, Milliband & Corbyn were poor choices, for example.

Hodges was correct in his first evaluation. Trouble is that Starmer can't defend the choice by saying that was exactly what was needed to try to work with a transactional, egotistical greedy bastard like Trump.

For his own MPs it doesn't need saying. They know. So do the rest.
February 9, 2026 at 9:49 AM
Why do you choose to leave Starmer out of the discussion?
February 7, 2026 at 6:01 PM
In your dreams.

The day owners prioritise local supporters and low ticket prices will be the day the European Cup becomes a knock-out tournament again.
February 6, 2026 at 2:23 PM
Blocking is obstruction.

You can only shield the ball and block another player if you are within playing distance of the ball.

Once the ball is in play from a corner or free kick all the blockers are committing a foul.

You have a right to stand your ground and/or make a run. That's it.

She's not standing for the council.

What's her stance on

Ukraine
Customs union
Trade deal with the US
SEND
Immigration
House building, targets and siteing
Defence structure and funding
Budgeting for it all
etc
etc

Come to think of it, do the Greens have any policies on that stuff.

Well said Kenny. Most of these Jeremiah's exhibit no knowledge of football in their comments. Many carry over their dislike of Moyes expressed for years before he left. They cannot admit his creattion of the best side we had in years punching above its weight and great to watch.

I was taught the impact of the North Atlantic Drift in geography class 60 years ago. We were also taught the consequence of it stopping.

This scare-mongering speculation comes around every 10 years or so.
February 3, 2026 at 7:18 PM
I voted for Burnham as leader. I wouldn't do so again. More to the point, neither would the PLP.

A Burnham victory in the by-election would be welcomed by the usual suspects of the SCG, 25 MPs, seeking to be disruptive, the ambitious members of the centre-right and the Tory press.

Calm down.
January 31, 2026 at 8:13 AM
Going in is the easy part, getting out is more difficult and being able to claim that anything of values would be achieved is likely impossible.

Other than a further Epsteinian distraction.
January 31, 2026 at 7:43 AM
Does anyone in the UK care?
January 31, 2026 at 7:41 AM
Reading that was a waste of five minutes I'll never get back.

Less can be more Barney and, yes, I know you have column inches to fill but, in this case, none would have been better.
