Are you one of the many folks on the Internet who find cool people but are then constantly disappointed down the line by how phobic and awful or prejudiced or bigoted they turn out to be? Most of my fandoms are smoking wrecks due to problematic creators, and I hate that it seems like

Thinking about getting out of the Home Automation game. The benefits don't feel like they outweigh the costs, and the constant house system maintenance, troubleshooting, and reconfigurations as tech changes and open source solutions and platforms change, upgrade, and change foundations.

Looks like I'll be using two windows laptops and external portable monitors for a while. Does anyone have a good KVM/docking setup they like for this kind of config where I can share external monitors and keyboard/mouse between two laptops (& use the attached screens too for each of the laptops)?

H5N1 is about to transition to human to human transmission. This would be, as Dr. Venkman says "bad". In the past, human fatality data from H5N1 had put it around 40% to 70%.

I have 15 pre-addressed pre-stamped postcards I want to send to someone dear to me, masquerading as my cat.

We were thinking of each postcard being an item from a list of grievances as in

I've been a data engineer, and machine learning engineer for 6 years (more if you count my scientific work in grad school).

Companies and CEOs that blame or credit AI for making decisions like firing, hiring, and denying insurance claims are lying to you.

I'm a weird old school trans (nontransitioning), genderqueer, genderfluid, masculine nonbinary person (and chromosomally intersex in weird and complex ways). I don't fit into the majority trans experiences. But I still think TERFs have GOT TO GO!!! Singal and Rowling especially.

Um, did anyone else get a terrifying tsunami warning for the SF Bay Area that basically said "head for the hills!" just now? All I can do is walk uphill.

Men often cast about for how-tos when asked to defend and stand up for women in gender bias situations.

I just wrote this to my boss, who used the term, "bitch", to describe a former colleague to a couple of new recruits in an onboarding meeting:

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else

Actually kind of shocked that so many on the so-called "left" on here would celebrate the death of the CEO of the Shorten People's Lives Factory.

That chart that shows the UHG denial rate? I was "lucky" enough to be on a very good Kaiser Permanente (they're on the other end of the chart at just 7%) plan and I've been on KP for a big chunk of my life. Good thing too because in 2021 I got leukemia and since then Kaiser has paid for more than

This is explicitly what LLCs and S-Corps are for. This is how US capitalism fundamentally works - avoiding personal liability for hurtful actions against fellow humans. "I didn't do it - my company made a rational, cold business decision. But I profited anyhow."

On tipping in the US:
I tip, at minimum, even for bad service, 20% on the subtotal at any time I'm eating out. For fine dining my minimum is 25% and usually I do 30% or 35%. I never send food or drinks back if I can help it,
