“Melancholy Meltdown” brings climate change into the theme of the painting. A polar bear stands on a shrinking ice cap, with a representation of the earth below the cap and the ocean at the very bottom. Look closely and you see a tear in all three.

The painting,"AeroBison" was Pen's initial departure from traditional NWC style in her earlier work. With a stylistic background, middle ground,
foreground, and a non-native mammal to the NW,This deviation from the norm signaled the beginning evolution of Pen's distinctive style.

The painting, “Moon Embrace”, completed in 1998, features Pen’s interpretation of a bat. The influence from Northwest Coast indigenous art still dominates the image.
