Fucking American grifters, exploiting everyone else's tragedy for pleasure and profit.
While I love my niche stupid hobby of historical board gaming, sometimes it does just make me want to scream. Take the latest example, a board game about the Irish Potato Famine where you get to compete with friends to see who survives best (?)

The Great Hunger
Easy-to-learn, card-driven game, rich with historical detail; explores 19th-century Irish expansion, blight, famine, & emigration. 2-5P

The "traditional" structure of TTRPGs puts an enormous amount of pressure on the GM to learn/refine & very little on the players.

Which is somehow seen as more reasonable than spreading the load of learning/contribution across the whole table.

Broader implications about community in there, y'all.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

So NBC News has now changed how this post, without any mention of the edits. I had left the webpage open, and on the left is the original (also posted above), and on the right is newer, tamer take.

Same basic point, sure, but downplays the "not as trained" part. Makes it more implied than express.

I mean, right there in Minneapolis, the MPD initially asserted that George Floyd's death was a "medical incident."

Even tho they knew their bodycams were recording the murder, and even tho they knew ppl were filming the stop and assault, the MPD opened with a lie.

This seems significant: not a FORMER DHS official, but a SENIOR (current) one saying the officer who fired acted counter to training.

This is not an admin that admits mistakes. And they are hanging this guy out to dry on Day One.

I think they know this is bad. Really bad.

The book Cop Cop, by two former investigators for NYC's civilian oversight board, backs up this skepticism.

Police are trained to immediately invoke "fear for life" as a magic mantra that thwart efforts to impose accountability.

Police statements like these are more political than anything else.

We shouldn't have to see someone dying of measles to know "stop spreading measles." Reading about it should be enough.

But it clearly isn't.

This is similar to the arg abt why S Koreans fought their recent would-be autocrat so much more aggressively than we have: still ppl w lived experience.

Not joking: has one reporter responded to his preposterous Sgt Schultz “I know nothing” schtick by immediately asking:

* Doesn’t this level of ignorance disqualify you as speaker?

* Do you really think we are so dumb to believe you?

* Do you think it is appropriate to insult the voters like this?
RAJU: If defenseless survivors were killed, would that constitute a violation of the laws of war?

MIKE JOHNSON: I'm not going to prejudge any of that. I was pretty busy yesterday. I didn't follow a lot of the news.
