Both coalition agreements commit to principled decision-making based on rigorous cost-benefit analysis. The regulatory impact statement for the bill demonstrates the bill does not meet this standard. The RIS could not provide any quantified benefits.

A standout from the book for me is the way the research team remained utterly committed to peer review even under the most extraordinary time pressures. An outstanding example of the scientific method in practice.

Highly recommend this book. The inside story on science in action under all sorts of pressures while remaining true to fundamental principles such as peer review is inspiring. The narrative itself is very well written. An important book!

The contribution of the Waitangi Tribunal to our nation over the last five decades deserves to be celebrated. With no power except to make recommendations on the strength of historical evidence, their wisdom and integrity has enabled great steps forward by the whole country. Toitū Te Tiriti.

This statement about the Waitangi Tribunal by David Seymour is utterly, utterly false.

“It’s tried to become a source of authority in its own right and appears to regard itself as a parallel government.”

Government announces review into ‘activist’ Waitangi Tribunal
The Māori development minister says a review will take place into the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975, with the ACT Party saying it was “time to put the Tribunal in its place”.

“Aotearoa New Zealand is close to achieving reconciliation of the land dispossessions made during colonisation because the Waitangi Tribunal has made wise recommendations based on its practical application of the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi.”

I published this earlier this week. The work of the Waitangi Tribunal has been brilliant.

Add the Waitangi Tribunal to that list, which was created with bipartisan support in 1975.

I’m very disappointed the committee voted against this. The thoughts of everyone who took the trouble to submit should be in the public record.

It can only mean the government wants highly productive firms to be squeezed out by firms competing on how low they can force wages. This is the opposite of economic development. 🙁

Christopher Luxon describes the wellbeing budgets as woke. He should have said WISE. www.oecd.org/en/about/dir...

WISE generates new data and policy approaches to improve people's well-being and reduce inequalities, mapping how human well-being is impacted by ecological, digital and demographic transitions.

Awesome! Think of yourself as conductor and assemble an orchestra of players who can drive change. Iwi, business, science, local government, community, citizens. Strategies, not empty visions. Time is short!

Treaty Principles Bill: ‘If this law was kai it would be an ACT school lunch’
Bland, colourless, leaves a sour taste in the nation’s mouth - submitter gives zero stars for what David Seymour is cooking on Treaty principles.

This is a superb book. Every chapter full of important insight. Relationships is exactly the right word. 😀

Submitted on the TPB. By ignoring the treaty principle of exchange, the Bill misses the whole purpose of the peacetime treaty in 1840 and makes very serious errors of interpretation as a result. Let’s celebrate 50 years of the Waitangi Tribunal and its brilliant work on the principles.

David Seymour mentioned the principle of redress in his Cabinet Paper, but it is not one of his three “principles” in the Bill. As you say, the Bill is a shallow and unconscionable political stunt.
