The best part of a Bray Wanderers fans season is the few hours before the playoffs begin…

I wonder has China decided to join the stock manipulation game that the US gov has been playing. Make positive noise on trade talks. Watch the market climb. If we hear there are no talks Monday we will know the game is on. The difference is China would not be doing it not to make insiders rich

I noticed a strange thing during Brexit. British politicians would say something about international relations that they thought would play well to their home audience apparently completely unaware that their media is consumed outside of the UK. This now seems to be happening with the US government

This mornings spin was a good example of the RE Meteor 350 dilemma. On the way out motorway. Left lane comfortable but I knew I couldn’t overtake anything that was going above 100. The way back country roads. Glorious. A 650 solves the motorway issue but still not sure I need to.

First victim of tariffs are consumers. It takes a little longer for supply chains to react and certainly takes a long time to build manufacturing capacity or plant crops. EU can afford to wait to see what the consumer reaction in the US is. It’s not like this US gov doesn’t change course randomly.

I get the feeling US president thought he could take Canada in 3 days in an economic war…

I appear to have accidentally become a strategic advisor to the French government…
So as a new world order is being constructed and European defence will probably not include the US what stops France offering some of its nuclear stock pile to Ukraine or any other country that feels it’s a little bit too close to Russia.

So as the tariffs kick in there are also reports that the US may remove sanctions from Russia. It would be a very devious move for the US to introduce tariffs against EU countries and then offer to remove them only if the EU agrees to drop Russia sanctions.

Jaysus Starmer could win a peace prize if he keeps this up and I for one would have no problem with that. Hostility has to be met with unity.

Is Trump positioning himself as King because people think Musk is President?

So this is the bit I don’t understand about tariff mania. You put a tariff on EU steel. The steel is an input cost for US manufacturing. The EU sells the steel somewhere else (it’s not like it’s going to go off). Other countries then have lower input costs than US. They then displace US products.

Economics was one of those subjects that everything seemed straightforward for the first two classes then half way through the 3rd one things got complicated and I got lost. I’ve a feeling the next few years will be a practical demonstration of this on a global level.

First time taking a pillion passenger today. Wife is still talking to me so I guess that means it didn’t go terribly. It is a discussion minefield when you start talking about extra weight on the bike…

Finished up at work until after Christmas. Dog walked. Fire is lit. It might be time for a whiskey and a book.

First spin on my bike for a few weeks. Battery was not delighted to be asked to start the bike. Dark and windy but still better than not going for a spin. Jaysus the winters are long.
