This book had perhaps the biggest effect any book ever has had on me. After reading it I began driving everywhere at no more than 60mph. I defy anyone to read it and to not do the same. If the environmental argument doesn't get you, though why it wouldn't is beyond me, the economics surely will.

How do people get to be this unpleasant? This level of nastiness must require some effort. Why would anyone bother?

I can't agree with this more. We need a clear constitution.
We're facing a political emergency: a high likelihood of an shamelessly authoritarian government in 2029. So we urgently need this basic safeguard: a codified constitution.
