This is such a glorious and warm setting of this beautiful poem. Looking forward to performing it next month.
Morten Lauridsen’s "Sure on this Shining Night" is described as a meditation on kindness, peace & wonder. Written in solitude on Waldron Island in the far wildlands of Washington state, the piece speaks of healing, health, & awe — themes that resonate deeply in times of uncertainty and reflection.

BC their vote didn't actually fall, the Libs' did, and that propelled the ALP to take the Greens' seats in the undemocratic HoR. In the Senate, with democratic multi-member electorates, the Greens win seats similar to their electoral support.
Interesting that despite what is happening in the HoR, The Greens are doing quite well in the Senate. No extra seats I don't think, but they are claiming higher slots than last election in every state.
E.g. In Vic, they got the 5th slot last time, and this time have the 3rd.

It's really the Greens' fault for pissing off the sort of shadowy billionaires who fund dodgy well-funded attack groups like "Advance". They could have just sat back and done nothing on the climate and housing crises, like Labor, but instead they had to be all determined to improve things.

Just noticed that the Australian external territory of Ashmore and Cartier Islands escaped Trump’s tariffs. I’ve never heard of those islands before but if anyone asks, that’s where all our cattle farms and aluminium smelters are.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

Seeing a lot this federal election of people trying to scare voters off voting for independents by saying 'but who are they preferencing?' Each individual voter for a candidate decides where their preferences go, not the candidate.

This is Winston Churchill visiting the White House during World War II.
Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.

It won't stop at Ukraine. In a world gone MAGA, Australia needs a new defence strategy
Donald Trump has changed the world. Those charged with defending Australia needs to accept this.
