If you subscribe to a newspaper you may not read every day, how do you avoid getting a giant pile of unread newspapers? What is your newspaper reading and/or management strategy? #news #procrastination #WillRecycleEventually

Booker: "We have a president who did nothing as people stormed our Capitol, & then when those people who viciously beat police & led to some of their deaths - therefore cop killers - were convicted, he pardoned them. So for him to be talking about responsive law enforcement is hypocritical at best"

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

“All the books we own, both read and unread, are the fullest expression of self we have at our disposal... But with each passing year, and with each whimsical purchase, our libraries become more and more able to articulate who we are, whether we read the books or not.” Nick Hornby

I had plans this afternoon,
But a poem dropped by,
So I kept it company.
Then its friend joined us,
I was not rude.
Another crashed our party.
Nobody called the task police
Despite growing noise.
Before I knew it, evening arrived.
Chores were undone,
But my spirit felt cleaner. #poetry

If patriotic Americans of good humanity and intent cannot discuss and progress toward agreement, then how can the country as a whole hope to thrive in times of coalesced malevolence?
I am for every day all of us turning our first focus on fascism (or, if you prefer, authoritarianism) itself. They are attacking and gaining ground on countless fronts. Time spent arguing with those with whom one could be in coalition is time fascism uses to seize more territory.

I oppose terrorism AND I love my country AND I believe in the principles of liberty and justice for all. I believe in the justice concept of "due process," not just "do process," where you do whatever process you want. I remember claims that #AllLivesMatter #LibertyAndJusticeForAll

Medicine for thoughts bouncing around in your head is to let them out, even if you are only writing for yourself. You can decide later if you want to share them, or if you want to share some version of them. #write

Idea: Nonpartisan aged advisory council. Wisdom of decades of lived experience, no one under 70, no official power. Decision makers request advice and must periodically join them and listen to guidance. Maybe with chocolate chip cookies or other culturally appropriate grandparent-level accessories.

More people should sing, hum, or chat loudly for several minutes a day to increase their health by stimulating the vagus nerve.

If there would have been "no exit ramp" if the funding bill failed, then what is the exit ramp now? Because I would like my country to get off of the current highway to hell. What I see on the road ahead is people and ideals I care about being run over.
Trump, Musk, and DOGE would use the power of a shutdown to shift into overdrive.

And the courts, one of our best places to fight these autocrats, could quickly run out of money.

We can’t let this happen.
