And I get to see Los Furios for maybe the 10th time (I haven't kept a count)

As usual, I bought my early bird tickets in January for a full fest pass.

See you there!

Flannel over a band t-shirt is an iconic look that will never go out of style is a thing I regularly tell myself.
it's crazy that there's isopod species spanning from the deep ocean to arid deserts while still looking basically the same. this is a message against fast fashion trend chasing. find a look that is truly timeless and for all locations, like the isopod body plan

Hey Victoria, please settle an argument: (notably:dive bars are a positive thing)

1. Is Big bad Johns a dive bar or a fake dive bar?
2. Is view street social a dive bar?
3. Are there any other dive bars in Victoria?

Everytime I need to replace a thing and want to get something quality, it's always impossible to figure out where to look. It used to be you could go to a brick and mortar store and roughly know the quality level.

Now it's all drop sale website scams and unknown quality.

Anyways, I need a wallet

Also from a time before the term "welfare" was hijacked and actually meant the well being and good fortunes of all in society.

A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

2025 saw me get back into reading! Partly it was audiobooks, and partly it was helped using the @thestorygraph.com app (add me! I'm Patmeister)

It was great reading for pleasure again!

Over the next couple of days I want to highlight some of the best reads in thread form here!

One of the best Canadians!

Through a convoluted process I got to spend an entire afternoon in the legion hall on Commercial as an extra on the Evaporators music video for Half Empty Halls and he was the epitome of a bundle of frenetic energy, truly a nice and kind person.

Just a great Canadian.

Spoiler free stranger things thought: they know that M16s gave repetition mode right????

Also, the finale is 2h8m??? That's 7 minutes shorter than Red October, that's not an episode of TV that's a full movie.

Costconomics vs Walmartnomics in a nutshell. Here’s why having a Costco in a community boosts the entire community, including nearby businesses, while Walmart destroys whole towns and leaves people leaning on social safety nets.

And yes, it’s about as simple as you think. …

“An isolated bike lane is a toy; a useful network of bike and roll lanes is core infrastructure.”

I love this commentary on how empowering it is to have choices in your community. It’s also invigorating to know many communities in the region are contributing to a useful network of transportation ♥️
Comment: How Victoria’s bike and roll network changed my life
Even if you, or your friends, don’t use the safe bike and roll network, there are thousands and thousands of your neighbours that do.

It's our Christmas tradition of taking the 9am boat back to the Island for my partners family Christmas after Christmas Eve with my folks in.

Have they considered boats that go faster? Maybe they could do it with a catamaran hull design? They could call them "cats that go fast"

Just a thought.

The fondest memory in my entire gaming life may be struggling and eventually achieving stable orbit with Kerbal Space Program.

What an unbelievable game ruined by a bad gaming company takeover.
Kerbal Space Program is an educational game for learning why launching your enemies into the sun is actually extremely difficult

Of all the sins of AI, this is an unexpected and deeply annoying one
Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

Listening to the audiobook for Because Internet by @gretchenmcc.bsky.social and enjoying it thoroughly!

However I did NOT expect to hear a shout-out to CUSID in it, the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate, where I spent far too much of my university life!
