If that’s what they do to a US Senator with a question, imagine what they do to farm workers, day laborers, cooks, and the other nonviolent immigrants they are targeting in California and across the country. Or any American that dares to speak up.

In those days, they chose darkness because it required the least amount of effort or thought, in the dark they could care only for themselves as nothing else mattered. But walking in the light meant they would see and have to love the other as the self, and that requires a constant struggle.

Christ is king NOT because he is ruthless and selfish as he forces the world to submit to his will. He is nothing like a petty dictator. Christ the King instead lays down his life for his friends, he models how to use power and influence to serve and to heal and to love. We must do the same.

The fearful crowd does not know right from wrong, it only knows rage and pain. The crowd will 100% of the time choose to release Barabbas, stone Stephen, burn Jews as heretics and women as witches, bully trans kids, ostracize the immigrant, humiliate and dehumanize the poor and powerless.

The origin and the final destination of this life are the same for all of us. The source of life is your beginning and your ending and no matter what, you cannot be excluded or exempted out. That’s a part of what grace means to me.

The good that we do in the world… flows out to others… it really is as simple as paying it forward and as difficult as maintaining a mindset of paying it forward in everything we do.
