The Kingdom Where Love Reigns

Jesus’ kingdom emerges whenever love stands between harm and the vulnerable. In this reign of compassion, we discover true belonging and are invited to join God’s work—encircling others with courage, welcome, and justice so the kingdom becomes visible here and now.

Throughout the year, we learn about needs in our community and we respond as we are able doing God's work with our hands.
See this flier for opportunities to serve now through mid-December. (FYI: the dates on the left are due dates).

Wrestling, Persistence, and Perseverance
Sometimes, life feels like a tug-of-war between what we hope for and what is. Between wanting peace and being pulled back into struggle. In those moments, I’m reminded that wrestling — whether with God, with others, or within ourselves — isn’t a sign of failure. It’s often the very place where grace shows up. This sermon reflects on how persistence and perseverance keep us connected, grounded, and becoming who God calls us to be.

“It’s Time!”

On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered into Jerusalem in a pivotal moment for decision-making driven by faith. As we navigate life's challenges, we know that faith persists amid darkness, leading to hope and transformation.

When Hope Requires Action

Jesus calls us to be people of hope as we not only receive hope but also share it with others. Especially after recent cuts to social services affecting vulnerable populations, people of faith are called into action to help those in need and become sources of hope.

HTLC Response to Statements Made about Lutheran Social Service Agencies on Feb 1, 2025
February 4, 2025 Dear Friends in Christ, These are unusual times. While it is not my practice or the policy of Holy Trinity to engage in partisan politics, what we have witnessed in the media and seen carried out in practice is outside the realm of normal politics. We acknowledge that people at Holy Trinity have differing good-faith views on our current political climate; nevertheless, our standing as a church compels us not to take political sides, but our faith demands we speak words of truth clearly and directly.

I saw these beautiful tulips among the many blooming things in the floral department at the grocery store yesterday. They reminded me of a “things of beauty walk” I wrote about a couple of years ago.

Where do you see beauty around you even as winter lingers?

Focused on Jesus: Spiritual Spotting in a Jarring World

Life is full of a complex mix of ordinary, routine life and jarring chaos. Mary and Joseph were no strangers to both of these. How do we maintain a spiritual focus amid chaos that keeps us grounded in faith and connected to God's love?

Can we "practice" faith? Can we build spiritual muscles? Using the metaphor of a sports team, we can see parallels to our faith lives. In both, there is teamwork, there are muscles (spiritual), and practice (in our faith lives, we call them spiritual practices). Isaiah 43 emphasizes that God’s message of "do not fear" is a reminder of unwavering presence and steadfast love amid life’s challenges, uncertainties, and fear.

God works through ordinary people to achieve extraordinary outcomes. Through Elizabeth, Zechariah, and Mary, we see their faith and readiness to respond to God's invitations.
