Developing an attitude towards meditation, by Ajahn Sumedho
The goal of Buddhist meditation is to see things as they are; it is a state of awakened attention. This is a very simple thing to do; it isn’t complicated or difficult or something that takes years…

o give life you must take life,
and as our grief falls flat and hollow
upon the billion-blooded sea
I pass upon serious inward-breaking shoals rimmed
with white-legged, white-bellied rotting creatures
lengthily dead and rioting against surrounding scenes.

The best & most effective 'timeline cleanse' is just to turn off the computer and go outside. Watch the sky, pet a cat, feel the breeze, listen to the birds, go for a walk, clean the house. Smile and receive a smile, say hello, say good bye.

In short, go & live. Beyond here, there's another world.

This is Zeze. We post his face quite often. When we posted on Monday, many people wanted to know more about his story – and make sure he's okay.

Though he was attacked by poachers as an infant and lost his eye, we're happy to share that Zeze is more than okay today.

I’m travelling in a “Château Class” car on the VIA Rail 🇨🇦 #Churchill MB train. What’s in a name. I booked a nice and cosy #sleeperette mini-cabin with almost all the amenities, except space: a bed that slides away during the day, a sink, a toilet, and towels for the shower located down the corridor.

This new work establishing lithium deficiency as a possible risk for cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease is groundbreaking. Eric Topol gives a very good summary of the new results and their broader context in prior work.

Fun fact: "Focal follow" is an animal behaviour research method that is used regularly at Gombe Stream Research Centre.

Scientists track individual chimpanzees from the moment they wake until they build their nest that night.

Between v/bloggers who don't have to adhere to journalistic standards 'report' on current events and AI generated pictures and videos, the 'news' that we are are subjected to is very, very slanted. V/Bloggers can say anything they want and if that is your only read on the event, it leads to 1/x

Ongoing pet peeve: when people use Neandertal to describe someone of low intelligence. They obviously are still using an outdated idea of what Neandertals were thought to be like prior to the vast amounts of paleoanthropological research that has been done over the last 100 years.

Loblaw, Empire and Metro control more than 60% of Canada’s grocery market = record profits, price-fixing scandals, and loyalty programs that harvest data.

Why not municipal “Public Goods” stores without manipulative markups that invest back in their communities?

One report indicates that climate change could push up to 158 million more women into poverty by 2050, compared to up to 142 million men.
