Elon Musk is on track to become the world’s first trillionaire. Imagine if his wealth was capped at $999M, and we taxed the rest (~$239B).

We could:

End homelessness: $20B

End hunger: $40B annually to 2030

Build homes: 710K new homes at $308K each

A trillion for one or a future for all?

NEW: A wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover in right-wing militias.

He didn’t tell police or the FBI.

He didn’t tell family or friends.

The one person he told was a ProPublica reporter.

This is his story, by @josh-kaplan.bsky.social:

This is sort of fascinating because if you were to turn on pretty much any talk radio station or pick up any tabloid, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was the inverse.

Young men are entering into an economy that is unequal, a society that is atomised and workplaces that are insecure. Right-wing influencers posing as self-help gurus are appealing directly to them. But an alternative is possible. Me for @theguardian.com

Shell's ultimate Houdini act 🪄

Shell is selling its problem oil assets in Nigeria, leaving behind a legacy of widespread pollution.

But who will pay for #Shell's toxic mess?

Oil giants like Shell shouldn’t be allowed to exploit and run. ❌

Insightful piece by @bloomberg.com ⬇️
Who Will Clean Up Shell’s Mess in Nigeria?
The energy giant says it remedies spills it’s responsible for. Critics say a proposed sale of a subsidiary could help it avoid paying for countless leaks.

For Twitter's many many faults it has exposed a lot of people (me included) to important information we wouldn't've seen elsewhere. Hoping the collapse of that platform doesn't drive a wedge between Western leftists and voices on the ground in places our media fails to inform us about.

It is a fact that when the dust settles on this story, what will be left will be a wide-open goal of near-unanimous public resentment and loathing of the American healthcare system for any politician of any stripe to jump on. It is unlikely that a single one will, and that is worth thinking about.

Musk+DOGE are *not* about government efficiency. It's purpose is to:

1.) Cement Musk's monopolies by ending gov't subsidies to his competitors.

2.) Get rid of any regulations that have ever or will ever constrain his behavior.

3.) Loot the gov't by privatizing public programs like SS and the VA.
