Women who took their spouses’ last names (& others with name changes) could get around the birth certificate problem by having or getting passports. But “getting” takes time & $$$, & Rs will likely slow down the process. Their bill doesn’t even offer to cover the expense, making it a poll tax.
The GOP’s new Voter Suppression bill, the so-called “SAVE Act,” would disenfranchise many of the 69 million women who took their husbands’ last names, as explained in my summary.

I drove a LOT the last two weeks. Through WA, OR, ID, NV, CA, & AZ, down into Baja & back.
I repeatedly saw graffiti in different states: Jude 1:2. Didn't know that Bible verse, so I looked it up.
"May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance."
I'm not religious but that's a nice blessing.

When reporters use "critics say..." I call it "generic attribution." Legacy political reporters do this constantly as part of their both-sidesing neutrality theater performances. I don't know how editors ever embraced it, because it's only a small step from just inventing sources.
