Golden Eggs, @sabbad.bsky.social , 2024

This is a truly exciting game.
Let’s start with the description: Golden Eggs is a dystopian one-shot TTRPG for 4-7 players, exploring themes of labor exploitation, survival, and betrayal. Players take on the roles of “Fowl,” beings raised in the Farm.

A cultural moment / a one page RPG (that is definitely about hunting extra-large beings, nothing else)

Continuing the mini-reviews of the bundle games: today we’re talking about *LadyBeaste*.

I had previously read and played this game, so this review is based on memory since I’m now focused on other readings. Still, I want to leave a legacy for this zine.

Starting today and over the next few days, I'll be writing mini-reviews of games by @sabbad.bsky.social that I received recently. These will be reading reviews rather than actual play reviews.

So, I had my first session of Deep Cuts by @johnharper.bsky.social . There's a commentary included, and I believe these should ALWAYS be in rulebooks—many of them, and they should be extensive. I feel the need for authors to explain their design goals more than just the mechanics.

Today, I read a one-page RPG by the Gilda del Cassero Bologna. It's called L'Attesa, and it is a fascinating starting point for a game. Due to its format, it implies an incredibly high amount of information.

I recently played a role-playing game focused on action. Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing for so many years, or because of personal taste, or perhaps due to a demanding period, but I’ve realized that RPGs with action as their primary focus interest me much less.

Yesterday I've tried Runeway, a new "small" all Italian #ttrpg, it was not bad in any real easy, but... but... or you find the lore really compelling or it add nothing to the scene

The last rulebook I'm reading is "Daily Dread" by @spiritogiovane.bsky.social .
I found some of its choices quite interesting, such as being written and described through fictional storytelling—a solution that was popular back in the days of the early Vampire manuals...

I’ve finished reading Orbital Blues by Sleney & Cox. It is an interesting game, brought to life 100% by excellent layout and illustration work. I was slightly puzzled by the "straight" roll between failure and success, without the "success with consequences" that seemed to be the standard outside...

next month I should start a campaign of Imp of the Perverse, game written by @ndpdesign.com
I am absolutely intrigued by the setting and the tone.
Our facilitator said I didn't need to read the manual, but now that I have some insight into the game, I'm craving to know the mechanical part.

As a fellow with a more or less slight OCD on calc, I have some grudge against the #ttrpg randomic table where you roll more than 1 dice but where the "center" or medianic results isn't what you want to happen more.

Start Reading a new (for me) #ttrpg:

yesterday's game was... strange.
I enjoyed it but the mechanical part was not smooth.
Are we playing something different from what the designer has created?
Are we trying to force things that shouldn't be forced?
Our expectations were different from the game we chose?

Tonight I am back in the Rapscallion (Magpie Games) campaign with my favorite group, because I say and support it, I love the discussions on the maximum systems that talk about rules, but people still make 99% of the experience.

If you're thinking about making a game with playbooks, it may not be obvious but:

In Apocalypse World, the playbooks are designed to bring problems into the game that they themselves aren't well equipped to solve.
