Receiving royalties: was it worth it? sth between 50-80$ will be tax, 50-70$ will be transfer fees, 80$ will be my fee as I have spent, more but let's say, 2 hours on finding/filling/printing/signing/sharing documents (applied a ChatGPT discount)

👀 I'll either break even or be indebted to myself 🎊💃🏻

Nothing screams science like repeating the mantra louder than the evidence. If only my voice carried half as far as the slogan.

I'm losing touch with my roots.
The repair crew flipped the windows easily. I flipped one to clean a month ago, it felt like a sure way to die. So I settled for dirty windows. My mother would've made them wait, cleaned it, then had them flip it back.
I didn't even think about it till now. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I might buy my first apartment if I can sleep with the idea of getting a huge mortgage... My heart can't handle debt.

My cat on the other hand sleeps very soundly. So my revised life goal is getting reborn as a cat in a house where I'm cared for.

I saw a LinkedIn post asking people to package their code and then learning to write unit tests...

Unit tests first, please! Packaging is an inconvenience, unit tests are a necessity. While you are writing unit tests you'll naturally learn the advantage of packaging. One stone two birds ☠️

Suddenly all the labs have a DNA purification kit... That's what having all the AI models around feels like. Accessibility is still revolutionary, leaves more time for QC 😎!

If I were to remain an experimental scientist, my tastiest discoveries would come from accidents which I'm not in a shortage of. Made kefir cheese from the grains forgotten in an open jar in the fridge. I won't complain about not knowing what to do with excess grains anymore.

I thought my education made me the go-to person when a family member needed information on a medical test, diagnosis or treatment.

It turns out my curiosity, and efforts to listen and explain it in a way they would understand without withholding information was the reason.

Achievements of 2024:
* Started strength training with a personal trainer. Result: 4kg 4x -> 8kg 5x. Discovered muscoskeletal issues that MDs from multiple countries have ignored as a bonus.
* Learned about SQL, OracleDB. Result: The data dump takes 10min instead of 72h.

As if the system wasn't sad enough 😂 I thought it was a joke when I heard about it but no, it was real and became even more real.

Let's see whether I'll see Beetle Juice or no longer get requests on quantum computing 😄

What resources are available for a noob biologist to get started using Linux and tools from command line?
My go-to is practicalcomputing.org

I never needed a book to follow as I had been researching every single command example I was given or came across but some needs it.
