My take on #Stadtbild . A couple of months ago I was visiting Poland from Germany and I thought that Poland looked culturally less diverse, and everyone was smoking. After a month in the USA, when I was coming back to Germany, I thought the same, culturally less diverse, and a lot of people smoking.

I have the hunch that Wilson's "self-determination principle" and the nation-state ideal have a nudge towards the empire, provincializing the other empires to make them their dependencies. As the idea does not apply to the US empire, it feels very pro US. Any reading on that?
