We’re in a clean energy world, and new dirty fossil fuel infrastructure has no place in it. Gov. Whitmer’s administration should reject the Line 5 oil tunnel because it's bad for our climate goals and the Great Lakes.

In Michigan, we believe in keeping our promises. Enbridge’s plan to build an oil tunnel in the Great Lakes violates long standing federal treaties with Native American tribes and should not be allowed to happen. We need to reject the tunnel plan and shut down Line 5.

The Line 5 tunnel project is for Enbridge profit, not for Great Lakes safety. A 2018 agreement with the State of Michigan allows old Line 5 to continue operating until the tunnel is ready, which means Enbridge will have earned $6 billion in the decade awaiting the tunnel whether or not it’s built.
