“And how are you?” Was the first thing Ranpo said once they were alone, startling her a little-- just because Yosano had been lost on her thoughts since telling the remaining Agency members about the deal their president had made with Mori in exchange for the mafia’s help. “I know it may not be the best moment for this, when there’s still so much to do, but…” She let out a deep sigh. “But you need it.” Ranpo continued. “I know you. Let it out.” Said and done: Akiko bursted into tears, holding onto Ranpo’s hand (already entwined with hers) as if she was once again as filled with despair as she had been at fourteen when they met. It may not be the same, nor was she completely devoid of hope, sure. But still, Yosano was scared. “He… said Fukuzawa-sensei had told him I was eligible too, and--” Speaking wasn’t easy, not when having to keep sobs at bay; there wouldn’t be an issue if Yosano needed time, but she needed to go on. “And I’m pretty sure that’s bullshit, but what if the time comes and he’s not here to refute him…” They had faced danger before, and at the same time the disaster the Agency had been dragged to seemed to be way too big. So fearing the possibility of not everyone making it to the end of it wasn’t exactly irrational. Said fear couldn’t be placated just like that either, at least not by herself. Luckily, Ranpo was there. “He’ll be.” He instantly assured, squeezing her hand, then moving to go for a tight hug; a promise. “And in the very improbable case he wasn’t, I’ll be, duh.” Not only was she starting to feel better as he talked, that last comment made Akiko snort a little. “Okay, got it.” The snort made way for a small smile, and almost immediately she turned her head to place a soft kiss on his cheek. “What’d I do without you.”
