@morningjoe-msnbc.bsky.social I would love it if everyone stopped calling that part “Republicans” or “GOP”. It’s time to call them what they really are. “Trumpists”. They have very little resemblance to the GOP and their only “principle” is whatever Trump says or wants.

A reminder to reporters, when historians look back on this moment with the president throwing himself a military parade and the people throwing No Kings rallies across America, the media sources raving about the former and sneering at the latter are going to be quoted by name.

This is your legacy!

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

I know there's a lot going on, but the Secretary of Homeland Security declaring that federal troops are in California and Los Angeles to "liberate" the state and city from its duly-elected leaders really is a fourteen-alarm fire.
It's mind-blowing how little attention this extraordinary statement has received. It's briefly mentioned in a couple news articles, but this MSNBC opinion piece is the only extended discussion of it I've seen: www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Why “Constitutional Crisis” Fails to Capture Trump’s Attack on the Rule of Law
The Administration’s defiance of Congress and the judiciary has both flouted and made use of the country’s legal system.

Today House Republicans, cheered on by the richest person on Earth, passed a budget framework that will cut support for the poorest people in our country.

All while cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy, and massively increasing the deficit.

Put differently, if the administration scooped up 20 activists tomorrow, myself included, and shipped us off to some nightmarish place, and you heard a news report saying "15 of those activists had no criminal record," I would be one of the other five. Would my fate be important?

If the courts lose jurisdiction because the government puts the prisoner in a black hole then there is no law.
It sure looks like they’re going all in on the “the executive branch can ignore court orders if it thinks the court lacks jurisdiction” thing

An addition to this thread. Most of what people are hearing about today are job cuts and closures of various centers, institutes etc. But there’s another part of the ecosystem of cure research that Trump and Musk have been torching since January.
