I absolutely snorted out loud in an important, quiet historic reading room. And then had the giggles for 5 minutes. Fingle rows of tentaculated fuckers!

This would be a very different film if it was made in #Orkney 😂🤣👰‍♂️⛪️🥂🍺
Watched The Blackening last night for the first time... it was SO good.
I'm very much a comedy over horror girlie, so it was right up my alley.

It's not just your typical parody. Incredibly well done 🙂‍↕️

A great summary of a shocking and deeply worrying decline of a once beloved institution. From the awful behaviour of senior managers to the not fit for purpose replacement of Canmore, an essential archaeological and heritage tool (and yes the purple absolutely sucks). Fingers crossed things improve.

Fascinating new interpretation of Buckquoy at Orkney's Bay of Birsay. Dating may put the entire occupation in the pre-Scandinavian Pictish period, and/or perhaps supports ideas of a long & complex transition. I can't wait to look over the bird assemblage data again in this light.

Really interesting blog tracing the #genetic lineage of #Orkney from the #Neolithic through to the #Viking era to the modern day #Archaeology
The genetic history of the Orkney Islands tells a fascinating story filled with contrasts. In his latest blog post @thinkuhi.bsky.social Dr Andrew Jennings discusses the results of recent genetic studies in #Orkney

I enjoyed looking at this when I saw the exhibition last year in York. It's a beautiful piece of interactive art. #Mesolithic #Archaeology #RedDeer
To ease you into the weekend, here's a lovely film by Guy Schofield, one of two winners of this year's President’s Award.

The film is about an interactive mural commissioned by York Museums Trust for the exhibition Star Carr: Life After The Ice.

Enjoy! 😊

Earlier this year, an excavation in Rousay by @uhiarchaeology.bsky.social uncovered an expressive carved stone face. We have a similar fellow in the cathedral, so archaeologists visited today to examine them side by side!
