Oh hello new followers. Some quick basics about me I guess.
I read a lot. I don’t promote problematic authors. I read diversely. Audio books are reading. Reading is political. I read many different genres. I enjoy spice. I’ll probably post sporadically and sometimes it’ll be about my pets.
Hey Chicago! The proposed 2026 city budget reduces the funds for our libraries by 50%, the lowest for a city this size. This is unacceptable. Libraries provide resources and programs that are critical and ours deserve to be fairly funded! Call your alderperson and say no! #chicago #library #booksky

I finished Servant of Earth. I'm such a sucker for deadly trials. I really enjoyed this. It felt like a unique take on the trope and I liked the politics and scheming. Kind of predictable but in a fun way. No do I read the second one of wait for the completed series? #booksky

I finished Beasts and Beauty. This was a really fun collection of retold fairy tales. Lots of twists I wasn't expecting. I enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting to. #booksky

Ok. How many audiobooks should I check out from the library before leaving on my two week holiday? #booksky problems.

I love when a book or movie throws the title into dialog at some point. But there is such a thing as overkill so I will also DNF your book when you make over a dozen references to the title within the first 100 pages. #booksky problems.

Libby what's up? It's said about two weeks for over a month now. I just want my spook season book please.

I finished A Harvest of Hearts. It definitely lived up to the promised Howls Moving Castle vibes. I really enjoyed it. I liked the FMC and following her story was lovely and I thought the magic system was unique. #booksky

Couldn't make it to a protest today but I did find a book to add to my resistance library collection. #booksky

I finished Rebel Witch. I enjoyed the first book in this duology but the second just didn't do it for me and I don't really have a good reason why. Maybe I just read them too far apart? There were definitely some pacing issues. I feel like they would have been better read back to back. #booksky

I finished Enter the Body. Overall I enjoyed this reclaiming of some of Shakespeare's most tragic tales for the ladies who suffer for the story but I do think a greater knowledge of the bard's work would have helped me out. #booksky

I finished The Bewitching. I loved this creepy atmospheric story of history and magic. The setting was lush and I'm a big sucker for stories told in an epistolary style and I really enjoyed its use here. The twists were good too. #booksky

I finished the graphic novel Mamo. I really enjoy this story of magic and family history. The art is gorgeous and I liked the queer rep. Very cute. #booksky

I finished The Lies of the Ajungo. I really enjoyed this short but powerful fantasy novella. I liked the cadence of the writing and messages about propaganda. Curious to read more of the series. #booksky

I finished The Icepick Surgeon. This book was fascinating and horrifying. I both hated and loved every weird brutal thing I learned. Medical history is wild. #booksky

I finished The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Come for the cheese puns. Stay for the fashion. This was a super cute queer graphic novel about friendship, finding yourself and cheese. #booksky

I finished the graphic novel adaptation of The Lottery. Damn this story is brutal. I loved the art style. It was very tonalist and really added to the bleakness of the story. A fantastic adaptation. #booksky

I finished Read Dangerously. I enjoyed these letters between a daughter and her father as they talked about life and the importance of media. #booksky

They just tear-gassed us. They tried to run us over in a van holding a peaceful protester. They shot us with pepper balls. They dragged another protester into the facility.
moments ago, ice agents again came out of the broadview detention/“professing” facility to escort a silver suv out of the lot.

one of the agents picked up and threw congressional candidate kat abughazaleh to the ground.

I finished a Treachery of Swans. As a former ballet dancer it was fun to read a Swan Lake retelling. I really enjoyed the magic system and there were lots of twists and turns. I didn't fully believe the romance but the two FMCs had good banter and were fun to read about. #booksky

Whatever you do, please don’t stop reading.

Read for joy. Read for education. Read for resistance. Read banned books. Read books by marginalized authors. Read about experiences that differ from your own.

Just. Keep. Reading.

I finished Phenomenal Woman. I'm really not a poetry girlie but I still loved this. The poems are so lyrical and approachable while still being very powerful. I definitely need to explore more of Angelou's work. #booksky

Libby needs to update their final holds notice from "available soon" to "will now be available at the most inconvenient time". #booksky problems.

I finished Lost in the Valley of Death. I get the purpose of this book was to bring attention to the disappearances in the Parvati Valley. But I don't think the book made me care enough about the main missing person case it was following. I mostly finished it for a library challenge credit. #booksky

I finished Wildblood. Big CW for SA. The book didn't really feel like YA content wise though the writing did. But I liked the ending and the jungle setting and the magic system was interesting. I do wish some of the character had just been aged up. #booksky
