TIL that you can (should) setup a proxy for @plausible.io so it doesn't get blocked by ad blockers. Luckily @hatchbox.io makes it easy to do it with Caddy. plausible.io/docs/proxy/g...

Set up a home file and media server on a Raspberry Pi 5 that has been sitting around. Next up: a Rails staging server.

Had a very enlightening customer interview today, and I've been wondering why I haven't done this earlier. It's so much easier to give advice to others than to follow it yourself.

I tried to explain why I don't believe the recent accusations toward my former teammates, as well as how the Ruby and Rails Infra team at Shopify operates and why it can be trusted.

Dear Rubyists: Shopify Isn’t Your Enemy
I’ve been meaning to write a post about my perspective on Open Source and corporate entities. I already got the rough outline of it; however, I’m suffering from writer’s block, but more importantly, t...

I can swear that the number of people who use “you’re absolutely right” casually in speech has increased since Claude.

My basic solid queue setup on Rails 8 is using 450MB+ memory. Is that normal?

Every time I think about how bad things are, I imagine how much worse they would be if we lived through the Peloponnesian wars, and I feel better.

New: the world of Ruby has gone completely off the rails over the past few weeks. Developers suddenly locked out, corporate pressure, and claims of a "hostile takeover" of one of the most critical pieces of infrastructure for the internet we all rely on everyday

Eloquently put, exactly my sentiment as well. Also thankful for thousands of contributors over two decades that make Rails what it is today.
Thought about this latest Ruby drama a lot. I ❤️ Rails and I’m thankful for it, so by association to DHH even if his political blog posts wind me up. Frankly, what he chooses to write is his business and I don’t think it affects Rails. Don’t read it if it gets you worked up. Life’s too short, srsly.

Shopify, pulling strings at Ruby Central, forces Bundler and RubyGems takeover
Ruby Central recently took over a collection of open source projects from their maintainers without their consent.

I've always tried to separate the art from the artist, but it has become increasingly difficult in recent years.
Ages ago, when I was still a student, I taught myself Ruby on Rails for my senior thesis and fell in love. Fifteen years later, and I’ve used Rails at every job I’ve ever held in the tech industry. Fifteen years, and I still love Rails! But there’s something rotten at its core, and we share a name.

Super excited to be at @friendlyrb.com, quite possibly one of the best Ruby conferences ever. And to finally meet in person all the awesome Ruby people like @rosa.codes, @michaelkoper.com and @lucianghinda.com and many more that I feel like I've known for years.
