All adults who grew up as abused children are culturally expected to heal themselves and work on themselves more than the parents who neglected and abused them.
Failing to heal becomes the next hurdle.

It's nice having such a beautiful place in #nature so close to Houston.

When you #kayak in #Texas in #nature; visited the east side of #LakeLivingston and #paddled my way up to the Rocky Creek Falls ( apparently the only waterfall within 100 miles of Houston ).
It is spectacular.

When you #kayak in #Texas in #nature; visited the east side of #LakeLivingston and #paddled my way up to the Rocky Creek Falls ( apparently the only waterfall within 100 miles of Houston ).

I say I'm giving up the search for #meaning & #self; yet I desperately still claw at both. I've checked off achievements, personal achievements, expecting each one to kind of open into a sense of emotional fulfillment - but there's just a void at the finish line every time. #mentalhealth

Some fun moments providing #kayak #instruction and #safety #rescue; paddler wet exits in a deep spot, decide to dump his boat by pulling it up on my boat and it works beautifully. Get him back in and slap the tires and light the fire - he makes it 2 feet and flips again.

On Sunday's #paddle in thew new #canoe I was experiencing torrential rainfall, my shoulder is doing better since #PT but my right side is still simply stronger, I edged heavy on my right to stay balanced and hugged the right bank. The world shrank to a bubble 10 meters wide with rain walls.

Broke in the #wenonah #canoe and received a proper #brazosriver baptizing. It's an easy 15 mile stretch in Waller County TX.
Jugs worked great, the boat is so light the wind pushes me around, and torrential rain unsurprisingly fills the canoe.l quite quickly.

Rigging up some jugs by attaching drinking syphons to them; they sit inside a closed cell foam block glued to the bottom of the #canoe. Pretty easy modification, might do the same for a smaller Nalgene bottle when I #kayak a smaller boat. Parts were cheap; 1/4" tubing, some barb fittings, etc.

I used to have a different idea of resilience; I defined strength through the ability to endure. Upon reflection that feels like a trap, one defined by your #trauma and #innercritic where you think you deserve what has happened/happening and must simply exist through it. #mentalhealth

My shoulder has been messed up for most of the year and it's sorely impacted my #mentalhealth and #paddling; I've managed to squeeze out a routine of preparation to alleviate it's impact on my #kayaking but overall the setback to my workout schedule has caused anxiety. Phys. therapy is going well

Reading about the history of #coracles; a saucer shaped skin on frame boats sourced from local materials and widely created by cultures all over world/history. They're associated with the UK/Ireland, but exist everywhere. They were used to fishing, poaching, traveling, or simply for fun. #kayak
