LEGEND!!
This is my brand spanking new substack where I waffle on about writing, and salt the dish which my grim but loveable cynicism. I'd love it if you jumped on board the bullet and said hi. It's a work in progress so feedback welcome. I may even listen.

It's foolish, I know, I can't physically read them, but I have a real hankering to collect 1st editions of debut authors and lay them down like fine wine... The books, not the authors.

Question for authors and industry types... Are business cards still a thing or should I be looking at QR codes, bumping phones... Playing hard to get by vanishing in a puff of suspiciously eggy scented smoke?

5k words a day is a slog. On the up side, the shape of the novel is stable in my mind. Writing slower, it tends to shift, tones change and it becomes a chimera. Fingers crossed it will be done by 3rd June for the BSU Anthology launch in, *checks notes*, oo! London!

Give me a fun ice breaker for the Bath Spa Anthology event on the 3rd June... I was thinking: If every book was being burned on the planet, which one would you save... Though, admittedly, this may be a little triggering to those who depend on books for internal and external nourishment!

Today I’m trying to crush my fat novel, 110 k words, into a size 90 k pair of jeans. Sweaty work.

What are people's thoughts on writing retreats? I'm fancying a holiday and reason something structured would dovetail well with me as a solo disabled (totally blind) traveller. Will be nice to hang out somewhere lovely with some like-minded writers/fucking booze hounds.

It would appear my x account has been hacked... No great loss. I'm looking to clean up my feed and, trying to put it delicately as possible, if I wished to silence users from a certain union of states, is there a way to do it?

Hello, all. Because of the entry system screw up last night and we're a little low on entries, we'll reopen for 24 hours as soon as we can make it happen on Monday morning, so you have the weekend to get your entry ready, and we'll announce Monday when we're open! Share?!

Is anger, when you really get down to it, just fear? At the risk of humanising those who appear inhuman, maybe seeing them as people who are afraid rather than simply cruel, might be helpful.

Questions to ask myself BEFORE I write a scene:

What is happening?
Who is it happening to?
Where is it happening? Most of all, why is it happening like this?

Fact is, I'm not really that interested in America beyond its entertainment value. I rather hope someone developes a mute button. It's a noisy fucker.

Patrick de Witt’s THE LIBRARIANIST is one of my favorite books, partly because of passages like this. I just completed a reread, limiting myself to 3 pages a day prior to working on my own book. An enjoyable way to prime the writing pump.

Baffled by the incompetence of @HumanWare. The BI20X, a 20 cell brail display, Is currently on offer for the low low price of £1695, £200 off, but the usual option to pay by finance has been completely removed making the offer, for most blind people, pointless. #A11y #Blind
