Wife, mother, discount grocery store owner, servant to ducks, chickens, and badly socialized rescue dogs. Live in the blue dot of Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Such a nice sight to drive home to on dark and snowy nights!

Which is most of the time on these short winter days.

Chickens: Hate putting their feet in the snow, stay on the straw paths for weeks. Lighter hens fly straight over the pond if motivated

Ducks: Living icebreakers crashing around the frozen pond, making a new path through the snow on each journey they take in search of treats

Happy snowy Monday from Ohio! We're predicted to get a lot more of this stuff this winter.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Great account to follow for up to the minute events in LA
After my break, it’s still going on. The sheriff’s dept has told ICE they’re on their own and have to figure out how to leave by themselves. They are refusing to assist. LAPD are only monitoring that the crowd doesn’t spread into other areas. The stand off continues. ICE vs LA.

The chicks are getting good at flying up onto the perches. They are less good at picking an empty spot on the perch. 🤣

All the chicks and keets are in the new henhouse! Lots more details to finish up, but they made it through the first night just fine. 🐔💗

Cover is up on the new henhouse! Doors and a whole lot of drying up to go before the pullets can move out of the brooders. They are ready!

Our discount grocery store partners with many food-related nonprofits and their amazing volunteers. This month we've been hearing the same story from all of them: food bank distributions and donations are drying up at an alarming rate.

Chickens need dust baths for optimal health. Our layers made their own in the hydrangea bed. 🐔

Now this is love. We have a redbud tree where half of the tree had fallen down before we moved in. The rest of the tree fell down last year sometime. But the lower part is still alive with a lot of new growth and flowers blooming on it right now.

Funny little vernal pond that appeared in our field today even though the heavy rains were last week. Might be a good spot for an intentional pond...? 🤔

I see you and hear you, dear trans sisters and brothers of the UK.
if you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.

More salamanders today, in Xenia, Ohio. I'm thrilled to see so many different kinds this spring. Makes me hopeful that environmental healing is happening. ❤️
