He basically had a hand in everything bad that happened from the mid-'00s to 2020. It's almost beyond belief.

Is there a newer option that hasn't been enshittified yet?

Kind of a fun coincidence... "Conejo" is Spanish for rabbit (or bunny).

I didn't think that was Liam when I first saw the halftime show, though. Because of the antiquated TV and TV show that were shown in that scene, I assumed that was meant to be a younger version of Bad Bunny.

Why do they always forget that Puerto Rico is American territory?

We should either make it a state or grant it independence, because people are just going to keep forgetting it otherwise.

People in the future are going to view ICE the same way we view the Gestapo. There's no redeeming or "reining in" the Gestapo. Just abolish ICE!

"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?..."
-Matthew 16:26

That verse comes to mind when I think about how the Holy Rollers hitched their wagon to the "Grab 'em by the pussy" guy and refuse to let go, no matter what.

I want him to be president, but he can't be president.

If we're just going to ignore the Constitution now, can we also ignore the part that says he can't be president?

Does Tim Pool realize how terrible that makes him sound? What kind of asshole votes for boots stomping on people?

By this logic, if I vote for democratic socialist candidates, it means that I'm voting for a helping hand to be extended to people instead... and it's MY hand! You're welcome, everyone!

Good.

But they should go further and get rid of DHS and every other vestige of the post-9/11 surveillance state.

It was such a great time when all the artists were making World Mikus in the wake of the viral success of Brazilian Miku.

The workers of the world really do need to unite, though. The problem is just that it should be under democratic socialism, not authoritarian communism.

Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight" (1996)-A gorgeous homage to the silent film "A Trip to the Moon" by Georges Méliès. In the mid-90s, Méliès was obscure and mostly unheard-of outside of film classes. Also, the video is notable for starring a pre-Spongebob Tom Kenny

It's nice that they at least want to talk about "cost of living", but if their plan to deal with it is anything other than "immediately adopt the best practices of the Scandinavian countries", then they might as well not talk about that, either.

Because of recent events, it's easy to forget how bad the George W. Bush regime was.

But it was *that* bad, and it's insane that the Harris campaign touted Dick and Liz Cheney's endorsement. Dubya was Trump-lite!

Finally, he has this specific sort of charisma that somehow enraptured a large subset of the American populace.

Someone like JD Vance or Vivek Ramaswamy doesn't have all that going for them.

Trump got *very* famous outside of politics, and he had the "outsider"/"not a politician" vibe that attracted people because of how bad neoliberalism had been failing everyone for decades. He also didn't have a rigid platform/ideology, so people were able to project their own beliefs onto him...
January 19, 2026 at 9:39 PM
The Republican base hasn't been the issue. They've always been with us, and they've always been *that* crazy, but just not loud & proud about it as they've been for the last decade.

The real question is, can his successor bring in independents and non-likely voters like Trump did? I don't know...
January 19, 2026 at 9:33 PM
Yes. Trump's advantage is that, for the most part, he's an ideological blank slate that various right-wing factions have been able to project their stances onto. It won't be the same if his replacement is specifically tradcath, or specifically evangelical, or specifically right-libertarian.

Take heart that it's probably going to bother the ICE agents more than it bothers you.

β€œThe first is the small fraction who are independently motivated to commit violent acts."

Your article has a lot of insight on stopping people who are with ICE for approval, but is there anything on how to specifically deal with that small fraction? Just deny them help from approval-seekers?
January 17, 2026 at 1:05 PM
Do you want to have resources denied to you just because the majority of your state votes differently from you?
January 10, 2026 at 2:14 AM
This is why conservatives should want to abolish the Electoral College. If you're a conservative in a "blue state", you don't matter to a Republican president because your vote gets thrown out in every presidential election...
