http://staging.OffStageJobs.com on Bluesky, obviously. This is our official account. Written (poorly) by Patrick Hudson: Founder/Owner. We have suspended posting on whatever Twitter is currently calling itself, while keeping the account as an archive.
Continuing on this, “The Best Choice is Always Kliegl!” 3 ads for the Performer series of lighting consoles (one in color!), and a “Klieglights for the 80’s!”

Unfortunately, this period was near the end of Kliegl’s 100 year run. Many of Kliegl’s design concepts remain in use today.

Bad cable management, and in a pyro production no less, cancelled New Years in Omaha!

My wife brought home a bound set of Theatre Crafts magazines from 1980, and I thought I’d share some of the ads we found. Some of which (like this one) I swear were still being run largely unchanged in the early to mid 90’s.

Happy New Year to all of you who are going to bed early!

I have just been made aware of the current connection problem with the website (honestly likely just a coincidence unrelated to my recent posts). I am heading to a computer now to deal with it. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Discovered that the on-river location of the Chicago national NYE broadcast is at the opposite end of the river from the main location for recent years when it was just a local broadcast. What's at the new location? A big building to use as projection surface. What isn't there? The Trump Hotel.

The employees knew where the EXITS were. The audience did not.

Never block your EXIT signs, doors, or pathways.

Of the over 2000 people in the Iroquois at the time of the fire (audience, show employees), over 600 audience members were killed, and just 1 cast member (who was trapped on a flying rig over the stage). Even the pit orchestra escaped. #TheatreFireSafety

Current Chicago FD would have a similar response time as 1903 FD, due to traffic patterns. Same firehouse location, travel path & distance. #TheatreFireSafety

The fire, & deaths, were the result of blatant disregard of EXISTING fire laws. The same laws your theatre may be violating today.

(While new laws were developed as a result of the fire, most of the laws we have today existed at the time of the fire.) #TheatreFireSafety

Hold please. At this moment 122 years ago, 602 men, women, and children were killed in the Iroquois Theatre fire. #LestWeForget #DimTheLights #TheatreFireSafety

Apologies. 122 years ago today.
Lest we forget, the worst theatre fire in history occurred 121 years ago today during a matinee at the Iroquois Theatre in Chicago. #TheatreFireSafety

This is major, major news which impact tax returns, job applications, bills, and especially vote by mail.
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.
USPS Announces Changes to the Postmark Date System
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has adopted a final rule (FR Doc.

No TD, PM, SM, or Producer has the authority to override fire codes/laws. It is NEVER ok to block exits or fire safety devices. #TheatreFireSafety

Today's Theatre Fire Safety Tip: Inspect ground-row lighting before each show. Make sure drops, scrim, & any debris is clear. #TheatreFireSafety

As such, "2 hours" should be assumed only as ignition point, not "will block a working fire from spreading for 2 hours." #TheatreFireSafety
December 28, 2025 at 11:06 PM
A "2 hour" fire protection rating is based on a 2 hour slow temperature rise to the rated temperature in a lab. Real fires reach the highest rated temps in minutes. #TheatreFireSafety

Violating a fire code/law because ”we’ve been doing it for years?” Ask yourself if you are willing to tell that to a jury. #TheatreFireSafety

As a Theatrical Prop Manager, hear me when I say: There are SO MANY REASONS why you should not make armrests out of WHITE MARBLE.
Marble armrests so the poor know this building was never meant for elbows like theirs.

Don't assume that "someone else" will take care of a fire hazard. #TheatreFireSafety in the theatre you're working in is YOUR responsibility.

The fire lane(s) at your theatre are not for deliveries, load-in/load-out, overflow parking, or valet parking. #TheatreFireSafety

Never store paint in or under stage or house areas, nor stair/hallways. Store in room outside the walls of theatre space. #TheatreFireSafety
