In a telephone interview this morning with The Atlantic, President Donald J. Trump issued a threat against Venezuela’s Interim President Delcy Rodríguez, saying that, “if she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro,” adding that he would not stand for Rodríguez’s “defiant rejection” of military intervention by the United States. Additionally, during the interview, President Trump reaffirmed that Venezuela may not be the last country subject to American intervention, or even that it would remain isolated to Latin America, clearly stating, “We do need Greenland, absolutely,” while describing the island which is a part of Denmark, a close-ally and member of NATO, as “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.”

Statement on Trump’s military actions in Venezuela.
The U.S. attack on Venezuela is illegal. Congress never authorized this use of military force. I will vote to stop it. This is insane. Heath care costs and food prices are surging. Trump’s response is we’re going to run another country. Batshit crazy.

President Trump said the United States would “run” Venezuela “until such time that we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition,” following the U.S. military operation that captured the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife.

He’s going to steal their oil! We are the new Russia!
