Wyatt turned six last week, so we opened some family presents that night and bounced with friends at Sky Zone this morning. It was so fun meeting the kindergarten gang and hearing him scream with excitement at every gift he opened.

My @letterboxd.social stats for 2025. This year was mainly focused on director filmographies and actually watching the box sets I bought. Also dug into some lesser horror franchises including Anaconda, Lake Placid, and Wrong Turn.

Vinegar Syndrome will be announcing new titles all week, but today's drop had a huge release hidden in their Partner Labels: The Great Silence on 4K. The limited edition of this classic spaghetti western has already sold half of its allotment in an hour. Don't wait if you want the slipbox & booklet.

Only took 3 years, but the Hellraiser remake is now on 4K and Blu-ray from Turbine in Germany. Rescued from streaming oblivion! Bought it via Brother Belial, who had fast shipping and even sent my order out as it came in stock as opposed to holding it to ship all at once.

In 2025 I watched 100 more movies than I did in 2024. This made for a lot of new to me discoveries.

Some favorites:
Crimson Tide (1995)
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
The Thin Man (1934)
In the Heat of the Night (1967)
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)

We asked the boys to stay in their bedroom until 6 AM (and they actually did!), but that didn't stop Christmas morning from going lightning fast. Merry Christmas from the Portanovas!

You ask a half dozen people their favorite Rob Reiner film and there's a chance they'll all say a different title. Here he is with the late River Phoenix on the set of Stand by Me, my favorite coming-of-age film. RIP to Mr. and Mrs. Reiner and the others lost on this heartbreaking weekend.

Henry turned eight on Friday, so we opened some family presents that night and had friends out for a nerf dart free-for-all at Tag Zone this morning. So proud of this enthusiastic boy who wanted a Wimpy Kid themed party and was just as excited to open books as he was to get toys.

Every few months my boys ask about watching Star Wars. We tend to go through entire franchises when we start one, so I want them to be a little older before we get to Episode III. This'll be the perfect way to start them on the series, because we are a theatrical cut family all the way.
The original, unaltered Star Wars (aka A New Hope) is coming back to cinemas with a brand new restoration in 2027 as part of the franchise's 50th anniversary celebrations.

Last weekend we wrapped up soccer season, the first where both boys took part. They both did great and had a lot of fun playing with their teams. We'll miss cheering for the Raptors and the Doritos every week. Till next season!
