For many of us, when we imagine a whale, it’s the beautiful humpback that comes to mind. This species is even one of our favourite emojis —> 🐋

Like the Antarctic minke, humpbacks are baleen #whales of the rorqual whale family.

(1/5) Have you ever heard of the Antarctic minke whale? 🐋

They’re the second smallest member of the rorqual whale family, which is the largest group of baleen whales (other family members are for e.g., the blue whale or the fin whale).

(1/4) 🐳 Kicking off our series on the baleen (filter-feeding) #whales of the #SouthernOcean is the largest of them all: the blue whale. In fact, it’s the biggest animal on Earth!

Healing begins with us. When we talk about healing, we’re really talking about restoring balance and allowing life to return to its natural rhythm(s).
January 21, 2026 at 8:32 AM
🔎 Let’s explore together what ‘healing’ truly means.

The Cambridge dictionary explains healing as ‘to make or become well again’, meaning a bad or painful situation ‘ends or improves’.

What has the so-called “developed” world developed into?
And who should be learning from whom?

🌍 Our planet can heal. Indigenous stories tell us how.

The ocean – like all other elements of nature – is considered a sacred place where everything begins. Our planet surely needs this mindshift.

Humans are intrinsically connected to nature. Nature gives us the air we breathe and the food we eat; its chemistry and visual beauty are healing. We ARE nature.

(1/3) 🎣 Fishermen at Jamestown beach (Accra, Ghana) often find more clothing than fish in their nets.

This means less income and more danger: torn nets, damaged boats, and constant repair costs. The local fish population also continues to decline due to overfishing, climate change, and pollution.

(1/3) In many indigenous cultures, the ocean is sacred. This is also true of coastal communities like the Ga in Ghana. 🇬🇭

A community of the Ga people lives close to Kantamanto Market and the Agbobloshie dumpsite, by Korle Lagoon – a water body that, til recently, was a sacred place for rituals. ♾️

#FashionWasteColonialism is when wealthy countries dump their unwanted clothes onto places like Accra’s Kantamanto Market. Low-quality and synthetic fast-fashion sheds microplastic fibers, that don’t biodegrade –becoming another community’s burden.
