Once upon a Chicago morning

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

A magician is strong because he feels pain. He feels the difference between what the world is and what he would make of it.

... a fiction is not a web of lies, with the truth, still squirming and alive, at its center; in a fiction, truth and lies are spun together, inseparable, in the same slender thread of silk. What the web catches is a matter of chance.

Nearing the end and loving every sentence; remembering one of my favorite college classes with the author's mother, Anita, many years ago. Feeling the connected themes, authors, history and influences over the years, traveling in parallel, timeless and new.
Eventually loneliness and snow became the same thing in her mind, lighter than air, made of nothing; only upon tackling the stuff did you realize it had piled too heavy to yield.

It can't have been cheap, but I applaud the developer of this brand-new building on 63rd St. for making it look like something that's been there for a hundred years (even common brick on the rear/side walls)
