I like how his team is the Bulldogs and Kirby wears what appears to be some kind of veterinarian smock on the sidelines. #sports

What if Alabama didn’t want to win the game? Maybe this performance is an art installation about how we overemphasis championships in sports and that what matters is really the time we spend together.

This Tati film doesn't get the same level of attention as his other work, but I really like TRAFIC (1971). The title sequence is amazing.

<p>The mechanized opening of Jacques Tati&rsquo;s 1971 film Trafic has a strangely calming quality to it. Despite being set on a noisy factory floor filled with massive machines and working men, the f...

My mechanic describes my car as a "town car." Not a Lincoln Town Car — in fact, it's an elderly Subaru — but a car he says I should not drive out of town or anywhere I don't want to walk back from. Today I defied him and drove out to Tybee Island.

Recipe for a decadent breakfast:
1. Secure a high-quality everything bagel. (I get mine from Savannah's Midtown Deli).
2. Toast it.
3. Put pimento cheese on it.

I'm entirely serious about this: until you internalize the view that urban America is Real America, you won't see the urgency of structural reform of an American government whose fundamental structures so disadvantage its population centers—the great engines of its prosperity, progress, & culture.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

I am enjoying my backyard fire, but I may abandon my post. The celebratory gunfire has already begun, and as they say, what goes up must come down.

Attention bargain hunters! What appear to be snow shovels are in the holiday clearance area at the 12 Oaks Publix store in Savannah, Georgia, where it has snowed exactly 10 times in the last 78 years.

Quitting Amazon was one of the best things I did this year. I stopped impulsively buying things I really didn't need, and when I did need something, I tried to find it locally. I thought I would miss it, but truly, I don't at all.

I was thinking this would be the year I'd finally unseal this battery-powered commemorative cocktail mixer I bought in 1999, but with the way things are going, I'm afraid it might be infected with Y2K.

My cat, Batly, has informed me once again that I'm spending too much time on the computer. She does this by jumping onto my desk and trying to make herself bigger to block out the screen. So, I guess I'll catch ya'll later.

I live 3 miles from an Army airfield, around 15 miles from an Air National Guard base that's home to an air-to-air combat training facility, and 50 miles from a Marine Corps Air Station, so I am used to hearing military aircraft. These days, I seem to be much more aware of them for some reason.

Man, this place was an institution. Always busy.
Chinatown Market set to close after 30 years of building community
It has served not only as a wholesaler and retailer for the local community but also as a sanctuary for international students looking for a taste of home.

I regularly dream about a place I used to work, including four times this week and twice last night, despite the fact that it's been almost 15 years since my position there was eliminated. Those who know me IRL and/or are aware of the institution to which I refer will likely find this unsurprising.
