Thank you for the article on Drezner's World! I thought of your when I noticed Trump is using tariffs punitively and granularly to target the flow of goods the same way sanctions target the flow of currency.

Hey, @dandrezner.bsky.social - have you written anything about how Trump is basically treating tariffs like sanctions for behavior or conditions of which he disapproves?
We are in new territory with Trump’s latest trade letter, threatening a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil starting Aug. 1

Hey, @dandrezner.bsky.social - have you written anything about how Trump is basically treating tariffs like sanctions for behavior or conditions of which he disapproves?
Pandora's Box has been opened. There is no way to know whether Iran's nuclear program has been destroyed unless and until:
1. Ground troops secure and account for all enriched uranium & centrifuges (impossible); or
2. A fission or dirty bomb is used.
Which makes paranoia the most likely outcome🧵

Lately I find it difficult to reconcile a maximalist defense of free speech with the phenomenon Dante identified in the 9th bolgia of the 8th circle of Hell: sowers of discord. The "paradox of tolerance" is a common framing of this conflict.
